Iliad Ξ 200

I was born at the edge of an ancient sea, the Sea of Tethys, “ Mesogeios”, the Mediterranean Sea.
Daughter of Uranus and Gaia and wife of the Oceanus, Tethys, encompasses the whole of the magical universe we live in.
Enchanted from an early age by the strength of this Titan, her restlessness, her colours, her multiple facets and fluidity, I let her travel me across the world on magical voyages. The colours of the Mediterranean flow in my blood and nurture my soul, my dreams and creativity.
Capturing the essence of this Sea is unattainable, but still, I had to take the challenge… A piece of sea, like you collect a shell on the beach to keep the memory and share the song…
That’s how I started in 2000 to sing the song of the sirens with fire, beeswax, damar and pigments.
Encaustic, is an Ancient Greek technique used to paint the ships for the long voyages, sculptures, the portraits of Fayum in Egypt and the first Byzantine icons. It is a technique in which, one is lost and flows in an unparalleled choreography of fire, melted wax and colour. In the vastness of the blues, the turquoises and the greens, I learned to read Iliad and Odyssey and followed in the footsteps of ancient gods, heroes and poets and like Ulysses on my way to Ithaca, I continue the voyage following Kavafis counsel…
As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
